In a detailed discussion on the sidelines of a significant tourism event, Yulia Maksutova, the Director of the National Centre for Tourism Development in Russia, shared insights into the country’s strategies to promote tourism, especially focusing on the burgeoning Indian market.
Strengthening Ties with India:
Highlighting the importance of India as a prime market, Maksutova noted the event as a golden opportunity to connect with colleagues from India. With India’s rising interest in Russia, the focus is on bolstering the tourism industry between the two nations.
Tourism Growth and Expectations:
Maksutova proudly pointed out that Russia welcomed around 8 million foreign tourists last year and anticipates this number to grow. A part of their representation at the event was to promote Russia’s tourist industry and the visa-free organized group traveling from India to Russia, aiming to ease the journey for Indian tourists.
Expanding Beyond Moscow and St. Petersburg:
Despite the global popularity of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Maksutova emphasized Russia’s richness in diversity with its 89 regions. The introduction of the “Discover Russia” brand aims to unveil the vast, unexplored regions of Russia to international tourists, offering varied experiences from skiing resorts for the youth to tranquil stays by Lake Baikal for the elderly.
Welcoming Family Tourism:
The director also highlighted the initiatives to welcome family tourism, including the provision of excellent Indian cuisine by Indian chefs, reflecting Russia’s respect and accommodation for Indian culture to ensure a comfortable stay for Indian tourists.
Diversifying Source Markets:
Looking ahead to 2024, Maksutova revealed a strategic shift to not just focus on three but six top source markets for boosting Russia’s tourism industry. These include India, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman, marking a focus on countries that are not only geographically closer but also share friendly relations with Russia.
Promoting MICE Tourism:
On MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) tourism, Maksutova explained how business travelers to Russia often return with their families or friends, spurred by their positive experiences. This segment is a crucial part of Russia’s strategy to attract diverse tourist demographics from across the globe.
Maksutova’s insights reveal Russia’s dynamic approach to expanding its tourism sector, with a special focus on developing personalized experiences that cater to diverse tourist interests and fostering deeper connections with key markets, especially India.
